Stop asking the internet what curriculum your homeschooler should use!

Updated: Oct 14, 2023

No one should be telling you which homeschool curriculum to use for your child without knowing some CRUCIAL INFORMATION about your child first. Chances are YOU know your child better than anyone, so why are we asking strangers to take a shot in the dark just because they homeschool? Don't ask strangers what they're using! Their kids aren't your kids and you may be homeschooling for different reasons. I am often asked which curriculum to use in the home, especially when people hear I am a former school teacher. I can't answer this question without knowing your kid because every kid is different and deserves an education tailored to their needs.

What I CAN DO is teach YOU how to learn your child's learning style. Are they a tactile learner? Auditory? Visual? Multi-sensory? I can help you figure this out. Then, and only then can you properly tackle homeschooling and choose suitable materials that won't end up wasted or donated. What works for one home will not always work for another. We homeschool in order to give our kids an individualized approach towards education. So why would all homeschooling homes want to operate the same? This can even happen in a singular home and some siblings may require different approaches to learning. Don't furthermore hold your younger children to a particular approach simply because it worked for your other kids.

If homeschooling looks like power struggles with the kids and feels stressful, chances are you're just approaching it incorrectly or using the wrong curriculum for your child. I can teach you how to figure out what kind of learner your kid is so you can approach homeschooling successfully and have fun while doing so. My e-classes aim at giving you the start up knowledge and confidence that you need to obtain the homeschoollifestyle you wish to see for your family. With a variety of topics, I hope you find a class that meets the needs of your family. www.mindfulmamamatrixhomeschooling.com/shop

Although I fully understand your concept that every child is different (that's why I am homeschooling), I believe there is a lot of merit in asking others what they use or their experience with specific curriculum. It's simply asking for a review from someone that may be local to us and can give meaningful feedback of their experience. Remember, many of us are brand new and totally lost so we feel better getting feedback from our local community than biased reviews from the companies selling their curriculum. Generally what I see is people asking ABOUT the programs not if it would be ok for their child. Just my thoughts. As they say it's my 2 cents and probably all i…

Absolutely! It helps so much once you first know their learning style! Then, ask away! :)

So true! I do see a value in other's experiences but every child is different, I even switch things up between my own 3. I love a good in-person curriculum discussion, though!
